Law, Politics, and the Courts

Catalog description

Are our courts effective in achieving the goals of justice and fairness in a democratic society? In this course, you will use a case-based approach, working from historical landmark and contemporary cases, to begin to formulate an answer to that question. You will learn about the role of courts in the U.S. political system and how courts influence public policy. And you will develop an understanding of the foundations and origins of the American court system and the strengths and weaknesses of the system. Prerequisite: ENGL 17000 ; HIST 15500 , PS 15500 or PS 15600 .
