Catalog description

This course will focus on the heart’s electrical system. Students will learn the heart’s electrical conduction pathways and the structure of special cardiac pacemaker cells. Students will study medical conditions that cause abnormalities in cardiac electrical activity. Students will learn to recognize cardiac dysrhythmias on the EKG rhythm strip and 12 lead EKG concepts. Instruction will include distinct types of heart attacks and acute treatments. Electrical corrective therapies will be taught in the form of cardioversion, defibrillation, and transcutaneous pacing. Prerequisite: Paramedic Program Director Approval.
