Islam Matters in the world today, as any casual observer of the news well knows. However, there is much disagreement on what Islam is and why it matters, thus, it matters also how Islam is understood… and misunderstood. Since the Islamic conquests of fourteen centuries ago, Islam has shaped world history and been shaped by it. In this course, you will explore Islam’s story, examine the different ways of telling that story, and interpret sources from various points in Islamic history to better understand what Islam is and its global significance. Prerequisite: ENGL 17000 with a C or better or concurrent enrollment.
