GE-Human Culture: Literature/Human Diversity This course will introduce you to pre- and post-emancipation literature written by African Americans in the United States. You will read autobiographies, poems, and novels written from the perspectives of freed slaves, expats in Paris, civil rights leaders, and contemporary bestsellers. This literature will ask you to consider how African American writing challenges dominant American ideas about culture, values, and history. Prerequisite: ENGL 17000 with a C or better.
