Language Acquisition and Development for Young Children

Catalog description
This course involves an examination of theoretical concepts and teaching principles related to the nature of language, sequential development of language skills, and monitoring instruction of linguistically and culturally diverse students in a variety of English language teaching contexts. The course will highlight how the young child’s environment and culture influence their language development, how early childhood educators implement developmentally appropriate strategies and activities for stimulating language growth, and how early childhood educators can effectively identify typical and atypical language acquisition development. Prerequisite: EDU 50410 or ( EDU 50200 and EDU 54100 ); EDU 51500 .
