Catalog description

This course will explore the development of North African, Greek and Roman civilizations from c. 3000 BC - c. 500 AD. Students can gain an understanding of the political, social, and cultural achievements of North Africa, the Greek and Roman societies, and the cultural and economic exchanges and conflicts within the Mediterranean World. In particular, such themes of cultural exchange as found in Black Athena, will be discussed as it relates to the modern scholarly debate. The course will also highlight the key foundational political, social, and cultural relationships between these societies and the modern World.
