Social Inequality

Catalog description

This course presents theories and research on social stratification, emphasizing class relations, structural resources, manifestation, and consequences of inequality. Topics include the dynamics of global inequality, its relationship to the use of energy sources by affluent nations, and the effects of sustainability programs on inequality in various regions of the world. We will do so by exploring the intersections of race, class, gender, and sexuality within and outside of the U.S.-including contemporary issues and trends placed within a historical context. The focus of this course is on U.S. society; however, we will examine the U.S. through a historical and global lens.
