Catalog description

(Prerequisites: CHM 212 and BIO 111) This course is intended to introduce the student to the chemistry and function of biomolecules. The chemistry of proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids will be explored with an emphasis on how structure leads to function. Other topics covered in this class are: water and acid/base chemistry, descriptive enzymology and enzyme kinetics, the structure of DNA and differential gene expression.
