Grounded in the Science of Reading, this course introduces theories of language acquisition and reading development and builds background knowledge of developmentally appropriate literacy practices. An examination of the role of phonics in reading and writing development, highlighting effective strategies for teaching, and assessing phonics by adjusting instruction for the needs of all learners.
