Catalog description
An advanced study of biotechnological applications in crop improvement and agricultural systems. Topics include recombinant DNA technology, gene cloning and expression, plant transformation methods, tissue culture techniques, molecular markers, genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, gene editing technologies (CRISPR-Cas), and synthetic biology approaches. The course covers development of genetically modified crops, biopharming, stress tolerance engineering, nutritional enhancement, and biosafety considerations. Emphasis is placed on understanding molecular mechanisms, laboratory techniques, regulatory frameworks, and ethical implications of agricultural biotechnology. This course is designed for advanced biology majors and pre-professional students preparing for graduate studies or careers in biotechnology, agricultural research, or regulatory science.
