This course teaches the practical use of global positioning through the Garmin G1000 Flight Management System. We will cover GPS theory, operations, hardware and software usage, and refer to similar equipment models. This course references the National Airspace System and critical Air Traffic Control elements including navigational aids, operations in controlled and uncontrolled airspace, as well as towered and non-towered airport environments. Elements of communication, radio operations, as well as normal and abnormal operations are discussed. The content encompasses all phases of instrument flying including instrument approaches, holding and course reversals, departures, en route and arrivals as well as vertical navigation (VNAV) descents, troubleshooting and malfunctions, WAAS and autopilot use in an instrument flight rule (IFR) environment.
