ACCELERATED ARITHMETIC AND BASIC ALGEBRA

Catalog description

This course emphasizes the concepts of arithmetic, order of operations, variables, algebraic expressions, equations and inequalities in one variable, writing and graphing linear equations (including the concepts of slope and intercepts), exponent rules, factoring, and addition, subtraction, and multiplication of polynomials in one variable. Students engage in applications of many of these concepts including average rate of change and linear modeling. This course also includes introduction to the concepts of scientific notation, unit analysis, function, and systems of linear equations. Concrete representations, problem solving, reasoning, and critical thinking are emphasized. Due to the breadth of content in this course, hard work and dedication are required. This course prepares students for MATH-140 .
