Catalog description

The purpose of this course is to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to properly demonstrate, analyze, and teach fundamental movements in team and individual sports, strength training, core/flexibility exercises, and dance/gymnastics. This will occur through a survey of applications and techniques of select sports (e.g., Court/Field sports, dance, and gymnastics), and strength and core/flexibility exercises. Students will also establish competence in safety considerations and appropriate teaching progressions by actively engaging in skill analysis throughout the semester. This class will prepare students to teach and analyze these skills in a sequential and developmental manner. Material can be applied to schools, recreation programs, coaching, and exercise settings. A typical day will include in-class discussions, skill demonstrations, skill analysis, skill practice, and peer teaching.
