General Chemistry I

Catalog description
Covers fundamental principles, as in CHEM 131, but at a higher level and with more quantitative applications as well as more detailed descriptions of the periodic table of the elements, atomic structure, basic concepts of quantum theory, bonding, stoichiometry of compounds and reactions, thermochemistry, the gaseous state, basic concepts of the liquid and solid states, solutions, and acid and bases. Prerequisite(s): C or better in high school chemistry or C or better in CHEM 131; C or better in MATH 131; and concurrent enrollment in CHEM 121. Note: Withdrawal from CHEM 141 requires withdrawal from CHEM 121. (PCS 1.1, 5 credit hours - 4 hours lecture, 3 hours lab)
