Catalog description
Academic Writing addresses the needs of multilingual learners by teaching various rhetorical situations used to frame nonfiction essays in a variety of modes, the writing process, and sentence fluency. In addition, students will engage the writing process—invention, drafting, and revising—within a workshop format emphasizing multiple drafts. Using the framework on translanguaging, Academic Writing teaches the writing process and how to employ it when composing an effective essay. Sentence skills, written articulation of ideas, organization, attention to audience, and development of ideas will be focused on while developing critical thinking skills. Finally, students will focus on grammar and usage within the context of their own writing.
