Catalog description

This is an introductory course on the various aspects of the creative process and workflow for designing games. Through tutorials, assignments, lectures and critiques, students will learn how to conceptualize, prototype, and design games with consideration of rules and objectives, gameplay mechanics and controls, genre, platform and overall playability, while surveying the various roles in a game design team and discovering areas of interest. This course also offers an introduction to game history milestones, story and character development, sound design, level design, basic programming concepts, and writing for game design documents. Using an iterative process, students will learn the fundamentals of an industry standard game design workflow.
