IFINE 5391Screen Printing II

Catalog

This course will build upon the basic printing techniques developed in Screen Printing I. During the first half of the semester, students will be encouraged to reexamine several printing processes (CMYK, handdrawn positives, paper & rubylith stencils, drawing fluid, and more) using their creative work and studio practice for inspiration. Emphasis will be placed on perfecting registration techniques, clean & consistent print quality, best practices for screen making and exploring the possibilities of transparent, metallic and neon inks. During the second half of the semester, students will develop a print project based on their portfolios and studio interests and will work to create a professional fine art edition. A set of these prints will be presented to the LA+D print department and library. Special guests will join the class for lectures, demos and critiques throughout the semester. Students will get the chance to visit a screen print shop in Somerville and will be encouraged to visit relevant exhibitions around greater Boston and beyond.
