3D Concepts

3D Concepts is a Foundation course which addresses the nature of creative problem solving and the process of idea generation in three dimensions. The focus on the course is on process, rather than product. Students will learn appropriate and safe ways to handle a variety of tools, processes and materials to explore the relationships between mass, volume, and plane in response to assigned projects. Students will develop skillsets to move from ideation (brainstorming, visual researching, sketching, and model-making) to the designing, assemblage and building of artifacts in response to assigned projects. Students will make connections to assorted traditional materials, such as clay, wood and plaster as well as found objects and other non-traditional materials. Students will explore formal elements, and content (both formal and conceptual) through an understanding of basic 3-dimensional design principles.
