This course examines the global history of neurodiversity policy and the enduring impact of stigma on systems of care, education, housing, health, and justice. Students critically explore how neurodivergent identities have been constructed, regulated, and contested across cultural and national contexts. Emphasizing a policy-forward lens, the course analyzes diagnostic frameworks, human rights conventions, implementation gaps, and the role of mental health practitioners in shaping equitable systems. Through comparative local, national and global case studies students integrate macro policy analysis with ethical, neurodiversity-affirming direct practice across diverse populations and service settings.
