Foundations of Neurodiversity

Catalog description

This course examines the historical, political, and social construction of neurodiversity diagnoses and the stigma that has shaped policy, practice, and lived experience across time and cultures. Students critically analyze the evolution of diagnostic frameworks, institutional responses, and global policy approaches while exploring how power, race, culture, gender, disability, and socioeconomic status intersect with neurodiversity. Students develop competencies in documentation, ethical decision-making, supervision, crisis prevention, advocacy, and neurodiversity-affirming interventions across diverse populations, systems, and international contexts.
