Young Adult Literature

Catalog description

The main goal of this course is to acquaint preservice or inservice teachers with adolescent literature as a genre worth attention. Students will examine the power of young adult literature as a means of addressing social/emotional well-being, cultural awareness, critical thinking, and supporting literacy learning of diverse learners in the middle and high school classroom. Students will also learn theory and practical application regarding the use of young adult literature in meeting expectations of the common core classroom, encouraging struggling readers and students of varying exceptionalities, and fostering classroom community.
