This experience is designed as a cooperatively planned student teaching experience that allows candidates to gain practical experience in the classroom. Teacher licensure candidates will experience at least sixteen (16) weeks of student teaching with at at least 40 full time teaching days. Weekly seminars encourage the developing professional in the final, formal integration of theoretical and practical knowledge gained through the Teacher Education Program. An initial license portfolio will be completed as part of the student teaching and seminar course. The edTPA portfolio is designed to document a teacher candidate's ability to develop a comprehensive project and demonstrate the impact of the teacher candidate's teaching on P-12 students. In a period of high accountability, teacher candidates must document the impact of their work with students. The project is also a means to provide evidence of a teacher candidate's accomplishment of the North Carolina 21st Century Teacher Standards.
