Catalog description
In this course, teacher candidates investigate, evaluate and select content, methods and materials used in organizing and teaching reading, writing, language arts and social studies in the elementary school. They develop appropriate curricula and examine personal beliefs and dispositions. Teacher candidates design and implement an integrated, technology-enhanced, problem-based, thematic unit. Emphasis is placed on integrating skills, themes and content (reading, writing, speaking, listening, viewing) across the curriculum to enhance higher level thinking skills. An eclectic approach is stressed, utilizing authentic assessment and strategies for meeting special needs. The importance of citizenship, roles in families and societies, geographic concepts and various world regions are also emphasized. Competencies are aligned with NCSCS. Prerequisites: Admission to the Teacher Education Program. (F,S)
