Adv Criminological Theory

Catalog description

This course is an advanced survey of social science and criminological theories. Students will analyze and critique data sources about crime, the characteristics of both offenders and victims, and the nature and theorized causes of criminal offenses. Emphasis will be placed on the application of these theories to current criminal issues. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to articulate the relationship between theory, research, and policy; evaluate the role of social structure in the behavior of individuals; synthesize various sociological theories and explanations of the crime causation and prevention; and evaluate issues relating to theories of crime in a diverse society.
