PHY 431SC
Adv Phys Lab - Semiconductors
Le Moyne College · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This laboratory course offers an in-depth exploration of semiconductor materials and devices through experiential learning. Students engage in a progressive 14-week sequence of labs focused on fabricating, testing, and modeling semiconductors using modern tools and techniques. Labs include diode and transistor electrical characterization, Hall effect measurements, thin-film deposition using spin coating, optical characterization with UV-VIS spectroscopy and reflectometry, temperature-dependent transport studies, and photoconductivity measurements. Students will also simulate semiconductor device fabrication and operation using industry-standard software. The course is designed to develop technical competencies aligned with career paths in semiconductor manufacturing, R&D, and graduate studies. Emphasis is placed on lab technique, data analysis, and critical interpretation of results.
