Leadership in Nursing

Catalog description

This course addresses the professional role of the nurse as a leader within the healthcare environment. Particular emphasis is placed on ethical decision-making and on the development of communication and interaction skills essential to effectively working with groups and organizations. Selected leadership concepts, and theories are explored including change theory, servant leadership, conflict management, and quality and safety. A clinical practicum experience provides the student with the opportunity to understand and engage in the dynamic role of the nurse as leader / manager. Students will also apply leadership principles within a practice setting.
