Catalog description
The Little Ice Age (1300-1850): A Global Environmental History Throughout history humans have both impacted and been impacted by their environment. From 1300 to 1850 the entire world experienced a prolonged period of cooling. Popularly known as the Little Ice Age, this period saw political, economic, religious, and social unrest resulting in the toppling of empires, extremist religious movements, oppression of minority groups, and the collapse of economies. Integrating the fields of history and environmental studies, this class examines this period through the lens of global environmental history. Course readings are drawn from primary and secondary historical accounts as well as scientific studies of the changing climate and environmental disasters of the Little Ice Age.
