Catalog description
A survey of society and culture from the divisive election of 1800 through the Mexican War. The course will examine the nature of Jeffersonian America, the causes of the War of 1812, the rise of the industrial order and the cotton kingdom, slave resistance, women's rights and the changing American family, and the nature of Jacksonian democracy and reform. Readings, research and discussion.
