Methods of Historical Research

Catalog description

This course is required of all history majors. It teaches students what historians do and how to sort through the evidence of the past. Students will learn hisotrical methodology and techniques of research. The course will provide training in acquiring source material, analytical reading, research paper writing, evaluation of evidence, interpretation of quantitative data, and methods of avoiding historical fallacies. This course prepares students for upper-level history courses and the department's capstone project.
