Catalog description

This course provides research-based strategies to effectively create classrooms in which students with disabilities and struggling students can achieve academic and behavioral success. Content and assignments address implementation of planning, instruction and assessment for students with special needs based on IEP and 504 plans in diverse placements aligned with continuum of services. Topics include pre-referral strategies, special instructional programs, differentiation, universal design for learning, and planning for transition. The course will also address classroom management, and effective techniques to provide physical, emotional, and social environments that are safe, supportive, and conducive to learning. Teacher candidates will complete 20 hours in special education field placement.
