This course offers students an introduction to the application of various sports through the study of feature films and documentaries that belong to the genre of Sports Films. It focuses on the formal film analysis of Sports Films, situating this specific genre in the larger context of film production and distribution. Students will explore technical developments, mise-en- scene, and point-of-view in both narrative and documentary Sports Films. This course aims to facilitate a deeper understanding and appreciation of sports through the study of the formal artistic qualities, themes, and narratives seen in Sports Films. 54 hours lecture.
