Catalog description

This course is an introduction to the respiratory therapist's role as a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team with an emphasis on the scope of practice including duties, infection control, responsibilities, and qualifications of a respiratory therapist. Students will examine the history of respiratory therapy from conception to its current goals and standing in the healthcare industry. Students will be introduced to healthcare organization structure, management, finance, and regulatory agencies. Students will be introduced to the psychosocial aspects of patient care and ethics in the profession. Students will apply the gas laws and physics as they relate to respiratory therapy.
