Sea Kayaking: Multi-Day

Catalog description
This course is for the sea kayaker who wants to learn how to plan and carry out a multi-day trip. Students will spend the majority of the class on a four-day paddling trip. Topics include: itinerary, food packing and preparation, gear choices, Leave-No-Trace (LNT) practices, rescue scenarios, and rescue techniques. Students are required to provide all necessary equipment (kayak, paddle, PFD (Personal Flotation Device), safety equipment, camping gear, etc.) for this course. Rentals are available locally. NOTE:Students are required to provide all necessary equipment (kayak, paddle, PFD (Personal Flotation Device), safety equipment, camping gear, etc.) for this course.The approximate cost for renting equipment is $50 per day. Kayak rental is based on availability. It is recommended that students have proficiency in basic strokes and rescues, and have fitness to comfortably paddle 4-6 nautical miles four days in a row. FALL 2025: NOTE: This class is partially online/EVE and partially in class on campus. Students will be using a computer to assist with the learning process and are expected to attend class 49 hours with the remaining 2 hours completed online/EVE. SPRING 2026: NOTE: This class is partially online/EVE and partially in class on campus.
