Leave No Trace Trainer

Catalog description
This course will emphasize skills and techniques essential to Leave No Trace (LNT) minimum impact outdoor ethics and education by developing an appreciation of the ethical reasons behind the principles. Explores environmental and sustainability issues when recreating in the natural world and how to teach LNT to diverse groups. Upon successful completion of the course requirements, the student will be eligible to earn an LNT Trainer Certification provided by the Center for Outdoor Ethics. NOTE: Students should have previous backcountry backpacking experience. Students must be able to hike 5 miles a day with a 30lb pack. The field trip is In uneven terrain that gains at least 2,300 feet elevation. Students should have appropriate personal gear to accomplish an overnight course out in the backcountry. ADVISORY: This course will require participation in an easy overnight backpacking field trip. SPRING 2026: NOTE: Section 01 is partially online/EVE and partially in class on campus. Students will be using a computer to assist with the learning process and are expected to attend class 28 hours with the remaining 2 hours completed online/EVE. FALL 2026: NOTE: Section 01 is partially online/EVE and partially in class on campus.
