Catalog description

This course is designed for students interested in partner rescue systems in vertical terrain (rock, ice, alpine, etc.), specifically in a top site managed setting. Topics include climbing/partner rescue equipment, knots/hitches and coils, and partner rescue top site fundamentals. In addition, students will be introduced to decision-making, risk management, and Leave No Trace (LNT) principles as it pertains to various types of vertical terrain. ADVISORY: Students may use their personal equipment if it meets industry standard and is in good working condition, otherwise program equipment will be provided. SUMMER 2026: NOTE: This class is partially online/EVE and partially in class on campus. Students will be using a computer to assist with the learning process and are expected to attend class 28 hours with the remaining 2 hours completed online/EVE. FALL 2026: NOTE: This class is partially online/EVE and partially in class on campus. Students will be using a computer to assist with the learning process and are expected to attend class 29 hours with the remaining 1 hour completed online/EVE.
