Rock Climbing: Sport (Tahoe)

Catalog description
This course is designed for students interested in outdoor rock climbing, specifically in a sport lead climbing setting. Topics include climbing rating systems, climbing equipment, knots/hitches and coils, and sport lead climbing fundamentals. In addition, students will be introduced to decision-making, risk management, and Leave No Trace (LNT) principles as it pertains to rock climbing. ADVISORY: Prior rock climbing experience is recommended. Students may use their personal equipment if it meets industry standard and is in good working condition, otherwise program equipment will be provided. SUMMER 2026: NOTE: This class is partially online/EVE and partially in class on campus. Students will be using a computer to assist with the learning process and are expected to attend class 28 hours with the remaining 2 hours completed online/EVE. FALL 2026: NOTE: This class is partially online/EVE and partially in class on campus. Students will be using a computer to assist with the learning process and are expected to attend class 29 hours with the remaining 1 hour completed online/EVE.
