Catalog description

This course provides an introduction to fire protection. Topics covered include career opportunities in fire protection and related fields, fire loss analysis, organization and function of public and private fire protection services, and laws and regulations affecting the fire service. Students will be introduced to fire service nomenclature, basic fire chemistry and physics, fire protection systems, and fire strategy and tactics. (Formerly FIR 151: Introduction to Fire Technology). All hours are TBA and focus on achieving the stated student learning outcomes to meet mandated training requirements. NOTE: Students taking online courses must log in during the first week of the course or make special arrangements with the instructor to avoid being dropped.
