Introduction/Public Speaking

Catalog description
This course offers instruction on the theories and techniques of public speaking in a democratic society. Topics covered will include the discovery, development, and criticism of ideas in public discourse. Students will engage in research, reasoning, organization, composition, presentation, and evaluation of various types of speeches, including informative and persuasive speeches. PREVIOUSLY SPE101 ADVISORY: "Eligibility for college-level composition (ENGLC1000 or ENG101) as determined by college assessment or other appropriate method." SPRING 2026: NOTE: This class is partially online and partially in class. Students will be using a computer to assist with the learning process and are expected to attend class 2 hours per week with the remaining 2 hours per week completed online. FALL 2026: NOTE: This class is partially online and partially in class. Students will be using a computer to assist with the learning process and are expected to attend class 2.7 hours per week with the remaining 1.5 hours per week completed online.
