This introductory course is designed for students with no prior physical therapy experience who are exploring physical therapist assistant education as a potential major. The course provides an overview of the physical therapy profession, including the roles of physical therapists and physical therapist assistants, academic and clinical expectations, and foundational professional standards. A key component of the course is guided preparation for and participation in clinical observation experiences. Students also engage in introductory hands-on activities related to patient mobility and safety, basic communication and documentation concepts, and development of effective learning strategies. Emphasis is placed on early professional identity formation and informed decision-making regarding readiness for and progression within the PTA curriculum.
