Operating Room Protocols and Techniques introduces students to the principles of aseptic technique in the operating room environment. Adherence to surgical protocols and techniques is essential to ensure patient safety while maintaining a sterile environment in the operating room setting. Students are required to demonstrate knowledge in a variety of areas associated with the operating room as well as related techniques The Operating Room Protocols and Techniques consists of six components: (1) Operating Room Procedure Knowledge, (2) Operating Room Procedures, (3) Wound Healing and Repair Knowledge, (4) Wound Healing and Repair Procedures, (5) Knowledge of Surgical Instrumentation, and Use of Suture Instrumentation. The first component of this course includes a series of lectures on guidelines associated with operating room protocols, expectations and behaviors. The series of lectures is followed by a series of labs where students will demonstrate competency in techniques associated with content presented in the lectures. By completing this course, the student will receive a certificate of course completion. This certificate will provide program directors and institutional preceptors with verification of student training in the basic competencies of operating room protocol. WRK 2020 – Emergency Preparedness Professional Development Course – P/F noncredit This course introduces students to emergency preparedness training, planning and practices. Year 2 ADM 1030, ADM 1035 – Medical Spanish I, II, and III – P/F noncredit Medical Spanish Level 1 and 2: Completion due by the end of Semester 1, Year 2 Medical Spanish Level 3: Completion due by the end of Semester 2, Year 2.
