Catalog description

The course will provide foundational knowledge essential for the clinical management of periodontal diseases and conditions. Emphasis will be placed on correct diagnosis, developing appropriate treatment plans, and prognosis for patients with periodontal disease. The relationship between periodontitis and systemic health, acknowledging the potential impact that oral health can have on overall health will be addressed. Clinical procedures associated with both non-surgical and surgical phases of periodontal therapy will be covered. Special attention will be given to evaluating the effectiveness of periodontal treatment and establishing maintenance protocols to sustain oral health gains achieved through therapy. The use of pharmacological agents in periodontal therapy, likely including antimicrobial agents and adjunctive medications, will be addressed. The importance of integrating evidence-based practices derived from basic and clinical research into periodontal treatment protocols will be emphasized. Strategies for integrating periodontics into general dental practice will be discussed, reiterating the relevance of periodontal maintenance programs in overall patient management.
