Catalog description

per rotation There are two four-week rotations in Surgery with Surgery I being a General Surgery (Core) rotation and Surgery II (Required) being a General Surgery or Surgical Subspecialty. Surgery may be an inpatient or outpatient service experience in which students learn to recognize and assist in the treatment of diseases in which surgery may play a role in a patient's treatment and recovery. Students learn basic surgical procedures, aseptic technique; correct handling of tissue, and technical skills to assist the surgeon in the operating room. Students will assist in pre- and post-operative care to learn various surgical treatments and to recognize potential risks associated with the respective treatments.
