Catalog description

This course seeks to provide space for students in the helping professions to reflect inward and assess, plan and develop a holistic self-care plan while building resiliency so they can fulfill their professional role in assisting others. This course is designed to assist students in developing their own ongoing multidimensional selfcare practice, including examining the areas of their life that offer opportunity for growth. Defining self-care beyond the standard commercial definition will be explored, including the importance in the helping professions of well-being. We explore the critical nature of prevention measures for vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue and burnout. This course will pay particular attention to the impact of when the practitioner is needing to be resilient while both they and the people they serve, are dealing with significant life events.
