Catalog description

Plants shape life on earth through photosynthesis and their role in global biogeochemical cycles. Humanity relies on the plant kingdom for raw materials and food. This course explores the biology of nonvascular and vascular plants, with emphasis on structure, function, reproduction, and evolution—especially in angiosperms. Topics include plant anatomy, morphology, taxonomy, genetics, ecology, and tissue culture. Students examine the ecological and societal roles of plants through lectures, laboratory work, and greenhouse activities. Hands-on experiences support understanding of plant diversity, growth, and environmental interactions. Pre-requisites: C- or higher in BIO 230 and C- or higher in BIO 210 or ENV 153 .
