Adult Health Nursing I

Catalog description
Introduces the pathophysiology of commonly experienced chronic diseases and acute conditions found in the adult and geriatric populations. Alterations in oxygenation including ventilation, perfusion, and transport will be addressed. The Nursing Process model will serve as a vehicle for the assessment and nursing management of adults experiencing interference with their physical and emotional needs. The student will apply critical thinking to make connections with concepts introduced in previous nursing courses. Concurrent clinical experiences on medical and surgical units provide opportunities to analyze the nursing process and identify trends in assessment findings while managing the patient and incorporating relevant patient/caregiver education. Opportunities to perform and perfect learned skills in the lab setting will be available. Lecture: Three one-half hours (3.5) of lecture/discussion per week. Lab: one-half hour (.5) lab per week. Clinical: Four hours (4) of clinical per week.

A detailed clinical rotation schedule will be distributed to all students by e-mail prior to the beginning of the semester and discussed in detail at our Orientation meeting . NM Kish is our primary clinical site. All clinicals are subject to change based on instructor and clinical site availability. Lectures begin on Tuesday 8/18/2026 and meet every Tuesday and Thursday in B1274. Most Fridays will be reserved for asynchronous remote learning. Weekly lab practice will be required.

Simulation experience (one) and Skills Competency (one) testing dates TBD and may require students to be on campus during the day. Practice Lab hours are required outside of scheduled lab instructional time. Clinical dates and times subject to change based on instructor and clinical site availability. Asynchronous hybrid lessons will be announced weekly and will consist of various student-led and faculty-guided learning activities and review of lesson material.
