Basic Emergency Med Tech

Catalog description
Basic course designed to cover the principles and techniques of emergency medical care presently considered within the scope and responsibility of an EMT-Basic. Emphasis on the development of student knowledge and skill in recognizing symptoms of illness and injuries, and proper procedures of basic emergency care. Six hours lecture/discussion and three hours lab a week.

Section notes
Hybrid courses are taught with a combination of required face-to-face class meetings and required online coursework. Proof of immunizations (including Flu, MMR, Varicella, and TDAP) and current TB testing is required as well as passing a drug screen and background check. A current BLS CPR card and health insurance card is required prior to the start of clinicals. This class will meet on select Saturdays throughout the term for required skills testing. The Saturday dates will be shared with students during the first class session.
