Catalog description

Introduces the rewards, challenges, roles and responsibilities of beginning teachers and paraeducators. Develops generic teaching skills applicable from preschool through high school. Utilizes microteaching to simulate actual teaching situations, and discusses common teaching problems through case studies. Includes 10 hours of hands-on service learning in a K-12 classroom with a licensed teacher. Meets part of the requirement for the Iowa Paraeducator Generalist Certification. Arts & Sciences Elective Code: A; Comments: This course requires 10 hours of hand-on service learning in a K-12 classroom under the supervision of a licensed teacher. This is to be scheduled outside of class meeting times.
