Catalog description

As a survey course the history of the United States includes its earliest peoples and cultures through the Reconstruction period following the Civil War. Topics include the founding of a new nation with a war for independence and establishing its governance, the distinction of faith in this new wilderness, slavery, states’ rights, the questions of the Civil War, effects of the Industrial Revolution, the Westward movement, and immigration. The course will examine the facts of this history with a lens upon the average person experiencing those facts: famous people, events, trends, movements, economic crisis/growth, and social change.
