Catalog description

Theatre creates meaning within the particular historical and cultural contexts in which it is created and received. In this course, students are introduced to several key moments, figures, productions and styles; they explore how primary and secondary research can be used to understand those works within the contexts of their creation and illuminate their ongoing relevance to contemporary artists and audiences today. Students practice engaging with the conventions of various cultural performances. They develop skills in finding, reading, interpreting, summarizing and applying cultural and historical research to understand and explain performances.
