Catalog description

(Repeatable for credit) Course introduces students to the work and influence of a single philosopher, either historical or contemporary, in depth. Philosopher of focus varies by semester and according to professor. Reading assignments include primary source material. The course serves as a counterbalance to the broad introduction to the history of philosophy that students receive in the history of philosophy sequence. In this course, students learn to work carefully with primary sources, along with learning the requirements of academic philosophical writing.
